The 'Malibu Tortoise in a Speedo' Fat Loss Program
I notice that the UK government is sending out a clear message that obesity significantly increases your risk of dying from COVID-19. We know already that obesity is linked to other serious health risks, never mind the fact that being overweight is just plain uncomfortable. I should know, I’ve been there. In fact, the whole reason I studied to be a nutritionist is that I was fat, I tried many diets, I lost weight, I put weight on, I have watched my dress size hit UK16 and UK6. I struggled with weight and self-image for YEARS. Finally, in my 30’s I found what worked, learned to love food, got to a healthy weight and have maintained my weight for nearly 10 years (give or take a couple of pregnancies). I don’t weigh myself, I don’t weigh my food, I don’t crave or deny myself; leaving me with plenty of time to be hung up about a tonne of other things instead.
So, what was different from all the times before where I tried to lose weight? Well, on my journey of discovery, I learned one very clear fact that changed everything for me. If you want this, you have to be sure of one thing in order to succeed:
That you CAN do it.
As Henry Ford is often quoted as saying: “Whether you think you can, or you think you can’t, you’re right.” Sadly, we are consistently peddled the idea that losing fat is hard. No pain, no gain. You will feel hungry and deprived and you need a will of iron in order to succeed. OR, you’re told something else; that it’s entirely easy and possible! All you need to do is spend money on some shakes, diet pills, magic tea, surgery, cellulite cream and it will be easy. But it’s not easy or effective and so that’s what your brain learns. You are constantly being fed information that makes it hard for you to believe that you CAN lose fat and keep it off.
So, to compensate for this you can choose to hook into any number of convenient reasons why this is not your fault: you have a slow metabolism, your blood type is wrong, you have the fat gene. And yes, some people are naturally pre-disposed to hang on to fat, but this is not to say that you can’t lose it and change your story. You wouldn’t tell a child from a low socio-economic group to give up on learning to read?!
So here’s the deal, I’m not promising you a quick fix. I’m also going to tell you, very importantly and very openly, that you will fail. Failure is expected and respected for what it is – a chance to learn something crucial along your path to success. Failure is part of this process, so when you get there, know you’ve hit a milestone on your way to getting where you want to be. This program is not sexy. There are no magic foods you need to go out and buy and no hashtags to follow on Instagram. Hmm….am I selling this right?
This is straight-up, honest, hare and tortoise stuff. You know that story right? That hare that cut carbs, was so knackered with a splitting headache that he had to go and lie down, while the tortoise slowly learned to tweak his eating habits here and there, discovered the joy of eating, got on with his life and then one day realised he’d passed the finish line and was far too busy living his best life in a Speedo on Malibu beach to go back to collect his medal or even care about it.
So, if you’re interested in the Malibu Tortoise in a Speedo program then you’ll find it on my website ready to download right HERE. The first part is FREE, so you can see if it’s for you. The final 5 steps are £5.99 to download straight to your inbox. I’ve re-branded it slightly and decided to call it Fat Loss Program, to avoid confusion and any animal rights issues.
